Suzi’s Secrets #12:

There’s a reason history has a habit of repeating itself. One of those reasons is that people ignore the signs that events are happening again.

Recently, in the USA, our First Amendment right was trampled upon. Our right to speech was taken away when the government chose to (without giving the people a voice) ban a social media app that was less censored than the rest. I was appalled to see many people that didn’t care that their right was taken away, that many, many people lost a source of income, even making jokes about this event. Some people even defended the decision!

I'm rarely on TikTok and have a very small following. So the ban does not affect me like it does some. But that doesn’t mean it’s okay to say nothing or even make light of the government made decision.

Not saying anything is the equivalent of agreeing with it. Not saying anything is the equivalent of supporting it and saying “it’s okay.”

Well that’s not okay. It’s not okay to say nothing when you see an injustice. People used to say nothing when they saw a black man being flogged. Was that okay? NO!

People used to say nothing when they heard a man verbally abusing his wife. Was that okay? NO!

People used to say nothing when they saw someone assaulting another? Was that okay? NO!

There was a study done that observed people intervening (or not, as was often the case) in negative situations. They found that the more people around, the less likely someone was to say something. When asked why, they all responded with they thought someone else would intervene.

Is that, maybe, why so many people stayed silent (or even made fun) during recent events?

I have my own thoughts. Of course, I do think that the idea “someone else will do it” played a part. I also think that people thought since they weren’t on TikTok, or they only scrolled videos, or even were tired of TikTok being such a time drain for their family, they weren’t affected. Some I know were even excited by the prospect of no longer having TT available as a time drain.

Honestly, I would have been tempted to feel that way, if only the government had proposed the idea and put it in the last election. But they didn’t. And I can hear you thinking, but Suzette, you only have about 100 followers on TT and you almost never post there. That’s true. My account, myself, wouldn’t be too affected.

HOWEVER! The violation to my free speech and the free speech of others DOES VERY MUCH affect me. If not now, then it will in the future as they continue to violate our rights as US citizens. This is not a joke, nor is it a laughing matter.

It doesn't matter if you're on TT everyday, all day or never use it. It was a VIOLATION of your First Amendment right.

It doesn’t matter that it got reinstated (which I’ll go into at a different time). It was a VIOLATION of your First Amendment right.

And for the people that are saying, Suzette, it’s just an app and Trump reinstated it. IT’S NOT ABOUT THE APP!

If you still think that stunt was about TikTok, you need your eyes and ears checked. Pay attention.

The time for ignoring the news is over. The time for getting your news from the major news “sources” is over. Both are equally dangerous as one keeps you ignorant of the dangers approaching and the other gives you other things to think about to keep you ignorant of the dangers approaching.

Keep your eyes and ears open. History repeats itself.
